Damn Yankees is one of my favorite musicals. It’s about the lowly Washington Senators, who get beat every year by the Yankees. Nonetheless, they try to stay confident in the hope that someday, the Yankees can be overcome.

There is a wonderful musical number in it called” You gotta have Heart.” The essence of the song is about having hope and a positive attitude no matter what you’re up against.

I love this song because it’s uplifting and sends a great message to individuals and teams alike.

Regardless of what cards an individual or a group is dealt, attitude is the first step in moving forward in either overcoming obstacles or seizing the moment.

With attitude comes optimism. With optimism comes enthusiasm. With enthusiasm comes the vision of possibilities. With vision comes goals. With goals comes passion, determination, purpose, and focus.

I have met very few people in my personal and professional life that achieved much without a “can do” attitude. People that possess a positive and optimistic attitude, not only achieve great things, but inspire those around them. In short, a good attitude is infectious.

We at Genesis Polymers put a premium on attitude and optimism. We seek to bring out the best of ourselves to our customers and to each other. We motivate each other with the feeling that no matter what the challenges are, we will persevere.

In my over 30 years in the resin industry, I don’t remember a year that was as arduous as 2026. There’s been numerous ups and downs, twist and turns, and new and unexpected challenges occurring virtually every day.

Fortunately, I’m blessed to work with a team at Genesis that has the strong belief that we will prevail for our customers, our suppliers,  and ourselves, by giving nothing short of our best effort.

We don’t shy away from or get intimidated by challenges.  We see them as opportunities. We meet them head on with an attitude  of “ together, we will”.

Whether it’s getting an order out quickly that a customer forgot to place, finding a replacement truck when one dropped off unexpectedly, or managing an extremely volatile resin market, we frame each problem as another motivating challenge to bring value to our customers. It gives our team great joy and satisfaction when we find a solution and take the burden off of our business partners.

Next time you interact with Genesis Polymers, remember that you’re dealing with a company that starts each day with the “we will make it happen” mantra.

After all, “You gotta have heart”!!
